Mascara is the one product I've been the pickiest about my entire life. I've tried hundreds. I'm disappointed more than I'm impressed. So when it came time to make one, I was not about to settle.

It took 3 years. I tested over a hundred formulas. I went through applicator after applicator until the curve was right, the separation was right, and the wear was right. I wasn't going to compromise on any of it.

And before our original Black shade even launched, I knew I wanted this formula in Brown. I've always loved brown mascara for everyday makeup, but I wanted a shade that felt softer without disappearing: a true neutral brown, not too warm, not too close to black, and still defined on the lashes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it waterproof? No, and that's intentional. Most waterproof mascaras require harsh removers that tug and pull at your lashes over time. We chose easy removal on purpose. This mascara holds up through a full day of normal wear, workouts, and watery eyes. But if you need mascara for swimming or heavy rain, this isn't the one.

Is it a tubing mascara? No. It's a modern polymer formula made with plant-based waxes. It shares the best quality of tubing mascaras (washes off easily with warm water) without the limitations. Different technology, similar convenience.

How do I wash it off? Warm water. Put warm water on your hands, gently rub your lashes to break down the formula, and rinse. It dissolves into a liquid instead of coming off in clumps. No special remover needed.

Can I build it up for a more dramatic look? Yes. One coat gives you a natural, lifted look. Two or three coats give you more volume and definition. It won't clump or get heavy no matter how many layers you add.

Which shade should I choose? Choose Black if you want classic, deeper lash definition. Choose Brown if you want a softer everyday look that still lifts, lengthens, and defines. If black mascara ever feels like more than you need, Brown is probably your shade.

Is Brown warm or cool toned? Brown is a true neutral brown with a neutral-leaning cool balance. It was designed to look soft and natural, not overly warm, reddish, or too close to black.

Can I wear Black and Brown together? Yes. Allie loves Black on the top lashes with Brown on the lower lashes for definition that still feels soft and balanced.

How long does one tube last? It depends on how often you use it and how many coats you like, but with daily use most people will get 2-3 months. At 9.5 mL, it's a larger fill than most mascaras in this category, so it goes further than you'd expect. We recommend replacing every 3 months for hygiene, which is standard for any mascara.

    Better with Age

    After a week using this mascara I think it is already preforming better with age lol. The wand picks up a lot of product, and its super wet when used straight after opening. On my thin and sparse lashes, this is too heavy without a little help. I find that I get the marketed results and effect when using a lash curler instead.. I wound up loving the results after doing that more so than without using it! I think this formula is going to get better as it gets older and dries out, which is the opposite of what a lot of mascara at any price usually do. This is one that I think you could use within a full 6 months (usually the maximum time recommended use before tossing a masacra), and it will work just as good as it in the first month after opening and in its prime. Overall, I think this performs better than a lot of mascara at this price point ($27 after tax where I live). I also enjoy how easy it is to get off if you smudge it on your skin and even taking off at the end of the night!

    Stays in my makeup bag

    My sensitive eyes have been through a lot as I've tried new mascaras, but this mascara stopped that search! It washes off easily so I'm not scrubbing my eyes multiple times with an oil cleanser to get only a bit off. This mascara lasts all day, no fallout, and comes off with ease. Will definitely be purchasing the black for date nights!

    Excellent Mascara for Sensitive Eyes

    I've worn & tried numerous makeup brands for over 50 years, including more mascara types than I can count. With sensitive eyes, previous eye surgeries and now mature skin concerns, I was blown away with this mascara! I love the brown color, which is the PERFECT color brown, the buildable coverage, and most of all the fact that it did not feel like I was even wearing mascara (no heaviness, clumps, smudges, flakes in eyes, etc.) all day long! Removal was a breeze, and again my eyes were not irritated during or after washing my makeup off.

    This mascara truly delivers, and I look forward to trying the remaining products from Ravie Beauty that I have yet to wear. Congratulations on your 3rd year in business Ravie Beauty!     it's good!

    it's a good mascara. it has nice lasting power and is super natural if you layer it slowly and meticulously. unfortunately i love a very bold and voluminous but separated lash and this is a wet formula which creates more of a natural lash. I'm sure i could get there if i spent a ton of time building it up but my essence lash without limits gets me there quickly & effortlessly and is a fraction of the price.
